A life of purpose
My name is Indra Deva Sho. I am a Holistic Health Practitioner, Spirit Guide, Somatic Sex Educator/Bodyworker, and Traditional Caribbean Herbalist. My work is both folk and intuitive with a clinical approach. Addressing the whole self, I teach the reclamation of our bodies as somatic activism through ritual, meditative practice, and conscious self-exploration.
My mentor used to ask me before she died, What’s in a name? The answer she was looking for was EVERYTHING! That is the way in which I approach the world. A strong identity is the path to true purpose. I can’t know what I’m not if I don’t know who I am. However, that’s only the beginning of the journey. During my life I’ve been many things, some for the better and some for the worse. Through these times, I’ve come to understand that without a true sense of self, you can be called by any name, which opens you up to anything. In a society swiftIy killing the idea of race or culture, I was taught that the practices, rituals, and medicines of your ancestors hold power. This power can be used to heal, grow, create, and war. Understanding where you come from is key to understanding yourself. There’s a universe in it!
In my journey, I’ve used the knowledge and training I received to create a more grounded and connected life; finding peace through breath, touch, and natural herbal remedy. I used these allies to help me heal from rage, pain, addiction, and death. Conversely, they taught me to be more spiritual, how to connect and become a better lover, and how breath is the essence of life. What I received empowered me, and I've learned to share those teachings with others.
In my lineage there are root men and women: those dedicated to the land and spirits. A proud people that stand on the bonds of community and responsibility. Through discipline, we honor the path and the oaths given to us by those that have come before. My practice is deeply rooted in my Maroon heritage. These rituals ground and fortify my daily life. I believe spirit is the key to universal flow. Honoring the Divine in all ways breeds balance. As the great tree, we grow from the roots up, but it is the leaves that are portraying that beauty outwardly.
I possess over 20 years of training, and experience in various healing modalities such as Tantra, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Indigenous Womb Healing , Ancestral Ritual, and Caribbean Herbalism. Breath and touch are foundational parts of my practice, and I facilitate this through use of deep somatic meditations, conscious touch, and surrogate partner therapy. These techniques and ideas have been used in my erotic activism and education over the years working with various at-risk communities. My mission is to create safe space and opportunity for my people to heal and connect with themselves again. This is my offering. Ase’.
my approach
In my practice, I guide individuals seeking to heal from past sexual/familial/spiritual trauma addressing physical, metaphysical, and energetic ailments plaguing the mind, body, and spirit. Through natural remedy, somatic touch, pleasure exploration, and spiritual ceremony we intuit and implement a plan of action or course for healing.
When it comes to relationships, I use a wider scope; encompassing more alternative pairings to also include throuples/triads, polycules, and larger groupings. I aim to highlight how the individual is the seed of healing that supports the collective. In short: I GROW, SO WE ALL GROW!
I honor my past trauma and sex work experience to empathize with my clients and students and the vastness of their potential backgrounds. I teach spirit and touch to address the sexual and relational blockages that may be present between the individual, couples, or groups. Working together, we establish a path of healing that follows our desired out come and ethics.
In community, I use my practice to promote culture and unity through ancestral study, teaching workshops on spiritualism & breathwork, community events, herbalism popups from my apothecary, and periodically catering through cultural cuisine.
In the spirit of Sankofa, I promote strong leadership and wisdom through my outreach and community work dealing with young black men and women. I believe eldership is a privilege we must embrace.
My Philosophy
Liberation and spiritual protection start with a strong identity. Rooting into where you come from, who you are, and how to live through purpose are imperative to healing and finding peace. Establishing ritual teaches intuitive trust and boosts your personal magic when calling out to your highest oversoul. Understating your past, healing the traumas in your bloodlines, and moving forward with an open heart are all signs of an empowered soul.
In the spirit of Sankofa, we recognize that the oppression and trauma didn’t begin with us so the healing doesn’t end with us. After we find love and an open heart for self, we flow that love out into our relationships, families, communities, and then the world at large. Honoring the Oneness of the universe, we give thanks to the Orisha and our ancestors through spirit and leadership.
